Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel

• 0 to 3 years of practice in criminal cases; excellent communication skills (oral and written); good understanding of ethical duties of defence counsel; ability to work effectively with others; proficiency in writing and research; basic IT proficiency.

How to Apply

• Download the prescribed application format from the District Court Aligarh website, UPSLSA website, or Allahabad High Court website.
• Fill the application completely in the provided format for engagement as a full-time Legal Aid Lawyer (Deputy Chief/Assistant LADC).
• Attach self-attested copies of documents listed on the last page of the form (educational qualifications, Bar Council enrollment certificate, identity and address proof, ITRs if available, judgments and cross-examinations in Sessions cases for Deputy Chief LADC, etc.).
• Place the filled form and documents in a sealed envelope.
• Submit the application personally or via Speed Post to the office of Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Aligarh, so as to reach on or before 23/12/2025 up to 05:00 PM.
• Applications received after the due date and time will not be accepted.

Selection Process

• Merit-based selection by the Selection Committee at DLSA Aligarh, considering legal knowledge, computer skills, practice and experience.
• Interview of all applicants before the Selection Committee as part of merit evaluation.
• Final appointment subject to approval of Hon’ble Executive Chairman, U.P. State Legal Services Authority, Lucknow.
• Performance review every six months; services may be terminated if work is unsatisfactory or code of ethics is breached, as per UPSLSA guidelines.

Salary/Stipend

• Honorarium (retainer fee) is governed by UPSLSA guidelines based on town class.
• For Class-B towns (population more than 2 lakh but below 10 lakh) like Aligarh: Chief LADC ₹65,000-80,000 per month; Deputy Chief LADC ₹40,000-60,000 per month; Assistant LADC ₹20,000-35,000 per month.
• Exact honorarium within the prescribed ranges is fixed by SLSA/DLSA, and counsels must devote full time to Legal Aid work with no private practice.
